The Assembly, Becoming One Body
Has it been your vision and dream to serve the parish community? We are inviting all parishes to join together with us in this workshop to share best practices as a wider community, to explore the place of hospitality in the parish in a general way and also to share ideas of how hospitality can be fostered at the Eucharist.
In a recent discussion on parish community, someone commented: “There are no alienated people in our parish.” Think of your own parish. Do you know anyone who does not feel welcome there? Why? Having a Hospitality Ministry in your parish can bring about a feeling of togetherness and belonging.
We all want to feel at home and have someone meet us, smile at us, reach out a hand and say a word of greeting. This usually puts us at our ease.
It is no different when you visit a friend and your host or hostess is above all a welcoming person who makes you feel comfortable and cared for. Community is born of hospitality, and for the Christian community this hospitality, which reaches out to welcome and gather the scattered people of God, provides the context in which any liturgy takes place.
Care for the good order of the assembly is the first determining factor when thinking of hospitality in the Eucharistic gathering.
Hospitality goes beyond the role of ushering, it is a call for selfless service to God.
We invite you to participate in the launch of the National Hospitality Ministry on Saturday, July 16 at the Fatima Church Hall, Bushe Street , Curepe. Our workshop will commence at 9.30 a.m. and end at 12.30 p.m.
Registration commences at 9.00 a.m.
