Sunday March 20, 2005 LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Thank you, Fr David Khan

DEAR EDITOR: I feel compelled to inform all readers of my first experience attending a Lenten retreat at the St John the Baptist Church , St Augustine.

This retreat was conducted from March 7-11 and took the form of a mini Life in the Spirit seminar, which featured Fr David Khan as a main speaker. I never thought that such a seminar would have such a strong, positive impact on my life, causing me to refocus on what is truly important in life, that is, getting to know the Lord and living a life that truly pleases him.

So profound was this seminar that it leaves one desirous of having it 365 days a year. This is what Fr David Khan has done; with his immense knowledge and eloquence he delivered a life-changing seminar that made you seriously reflect on your past and make important decisions as to where you need to go now.

He spoke on significant topics such as love, sin and the realness of heaven and hell, impressing the hearts of many with the question: Where do you want to go?

I know where I want to go – Heaven of course, and I hope the rest of folks who attended the retreat made the right choice and are working assiduously to achieve this.

It must be mentioned that the praise and worship conducted every night by the Cluny Centre really set the tone for what was to come at each session. Every night I walked away more knowledgeable than the night before and with a desire to love the Lord more and more.

The retreat included confession and a healing service, which were both pertinent and phenomenal respectively. This was my first retreat, which has given me an experience I would never forget. I would encourage everyone regardless of age to attend such a retreat.

Thank you Fr Gerard Tang Choon for arranging this retreat. Thank you Fr David Khan for your enlightenment and keep up the excellent work.

A Villager, St John's

On the Eucharist sermons

Thank you, Frs Matthew, Martin, Clyde ;

It took a trinity of you, for us to see

The Trinity – the concept of

Eucharist in all its expanded glory

Embracing the earth, and all its peoples –

The primitives, the pagan, the Christian.

To see Christ in them all, in all their motley beliefs

As at the table of the Lord

To love them, to cherish them,

In all their various hues.

To see Christ's crucifixion, not as preordained

Sacrifice in its ancient biblical sense, with

Blood, but love, libation, giving of oneself

Freely, hospitality; even unto death.

To meditate on that mystery, with

Thankfulness,

Which is the Mystery of God, of Creation,

In its absolute sense, and in

It's simplest day to day activities

As the breaking of bread, the drinking

Of wine – of consecration.

To find in it in silence, in the heart of

The ritual, the Being of it,

The Logos to become – to dwell

Amongst us.

A member of the parish of Les Efforts
