'The Supreme Children of God'
Gran Couva/Tabaquite
Confirmation candidates on retreat
by Lyndell Beepath

Credo Retreat House, Couva, was the site of this year's retreat for RCIA/Confirmation candidates of the Gran Couva/Tabaquite parish. Five candidates (from Brasso and Tabaquite) entered the programme to be confirmed. They and their five sponsors spent two nights and three days of continuous prayers.

Some of us literally went to “find” ourselves, whilst some ventured out to find out more about their lives and the Holy Spirit. Our sponsors, whom we fondly call our “spiritual companions” were there to help us in our three day journey, three days which would change our lives forever.

Linda Wyke of Our Lady of Perpetual Help parish, San Fernando conducted Day one and Day two.

She taught us about Jesus' sufferings and His unceasing obedience to God, our Father and by extension the world.

One exercise that touched me was the “Faith Journey”. A series of questions/steps that aided me in reaffirming my commitment to God and the Holy Roman Catholic Church.

“Quiet time” was one way that I found myself, speaking to God personally, privately and letting Him touch my life in His own special way.

On Saturday night the “Friends in Love” group did a special prayer session with us and our sponsors. This was, by far, the pinnacle, the defining moment of our retreat that showed us how close we are to God.

We opened up ourselves to the Holy Spirit, allowing God to work wonders in our lives by just being ourselves, by being “real”.

Day two had a personal impact on me. Sr Mary Anthony helped us to find ourselves in the Holy Spirit through various artworks, which we used to express ourselves.

The clay work was unique, in that we all formed life reflecting works of art from just one lump of clay. A very relaxing form of therapy indeed!

In the end, I did not want to leave, but I did so, knowing that I have been spiritually empowered to do God's will and live the message that was given to our group which I nicknamed “The Supreme Children of God.”
