Sunday May 29, 2005 FROM THE PARISHES
Update on Santa Rosa soup kitchen
by Mary Marcano

Thanks to all who have assisted the Santa Rosa Soup Kitchen in one way or another. We now serve 150 persons in Arima and environs, on two Saturdays (second and fourth) a month.

However, we have found that we require help to manage this effort. The extent of the need in the community has also made it desirable to extend this service to the other Saturdays in the month.

In keeping with the theme of our Covenant Day, Reaching out to the wider community as Church , we invite you to keep the spirit of that day alive by offering your time and material gifts to the Soup Kitchen project.

We invite other Church groups and individuals to get involved in managing the Soup Kitchen service on any given Saturday.

One such group of selfless individuals, “GOMAD”, has already answered the call and committed themselves to the third Saturday in every month.

There is room for everyone. We need drivers to deliver the lunches (two hours per Saturday), cooks and servers. All are invited - the young and not so young.

Donations (foodstuff, cooking ware, containers, money) are also needed to support the smooth operation of the Kitchen. These can be sent to the parish priest.

It is also our intention to set up an account to receive donations, which will also allow us to account to the parish for monetary pledges made in support of the work of the Soup Kitchen. It is our belief that we must be transparent and accountable in going about our Father's business.

The Soup Kitchen is located at Our Lady's Home of Reconciliation on Victoria Street . Calls can be directed to 664-3107 or 664-2194. Again, thanks to all those who have already offered their assistance and we invite YOU to come and join us in serving the needy in our community.

May the Lord bless and keep you,
May he make his face to shine on you and be gracious to you.
May he uncover his face to you and bring you peace.

Numbers 6: 24 - 27.
