Breakfast with style
By Edel Phillip

The Sunday morning Breakfast held on August 28, hosted by the San Rafael Abstinence Club was not only a success for us but also the beginning of our journey of educating our communities on the new revolution of “Abstinence as a Lifestyle”.

The Club's objective was to bring a deeper meaning of “A Family United” by sitting together, as Jesus did with his twelve disciples, and so, with the blessings of God and the hundred percent support of Fr Michael Moses, our endeavour in making this event possible was a 101% successful.

For us to achieve this goal, we changed the routine take-away breakfast and instead put into practice our newfound skills learnt at an Etiquette course, which included, setting the table and serving. Former Justice Monica Barnes and Belinda Barnes conducted this course at two sessions of our Confirmation Class.

The members of our Club worked earnestly and unrelentingly and on the morning of the Breakfast, members of our five communities packed the San Rafael Parish Hall for this first time event. The 118 tickets were sold out.

Our Breakfast commenced with an opening prayer and blessing of the food by Fr Moses, followed by the welcome remarks by our Club President, Kervin Preudhomme. Our Club members then busied themselves in serving our parishioners who anxiously awaited the mouth-watering breakfast.

When everyone had eaten, our emcee Randolph Boodhoo did a monologue on the Abstinence theme but it was Fr Moses who mash up the place with a joke (good thing everyone had finished eating!).

Our Breakfast ended at 9:30 a.m. with our Club sponsor Louise Aguilal conveying our heartfelt thanks to all who supported. Fr Moses said the closing prayer.

Our guests were so impressed to see a bunch of uniformed teenagers serving, that spontaneous tips were given to some of us.

Our breakfast was a success and we look forward to having it again. Thank you.
