Spiderman church

In the movie Spiderman 3, Peter Parker shows two sides to his character.

Sometimes like the church in the photo, he is in his red suit of strength. At other times, like the other photo, he assumes the dark suit of weakness and vulnerability.

One memorable line from the film for me was “Even Spiderman needs help sometimes.”

We are sometimes surprised to discover in ourselves and our Church, from the Pope down, that there is a dark side of us that we would rather not admit.

Luckily for us (and for Spiderman) help comes when we are down. Our live-in companion is the Spirit who refreshes, renews and revitalises us from within.

The good in us triumphs when we accept the help offered.
