This stained glass window of St Francis with birds around him reminds me of his love for God"s creation.
At his death, many birds flew low above the roof of the house where he lay, wheeling in a circle and singing.
Always his love for nature led him to praise the Creator. He invited Brother Sun, Sister Moon, Brother Wind, Sister Water, and Sister Mother Earth to praise the God who gives sustenance to His creatures.
His great canticle is one of gratitude to the Giver of all that is good.
At this time when we celebrate his feast and the holy month of Ramadan, St Francis is remembered for his visit to the Muslim Sultan al-Malik al-Kamil who received him graciously.
He showed reverence to the Sultan and was given a safe passage back to his people.
Though he failed to prevent further violence, his attempt at a negotiated peace is an example to the modern world. We need our brother Francis to shine through the windows of T&T with his gratitude to God and His work for peace. |
