Touch of Christ sports

Touch of Christ held its third Sports and Family Day on Saturday June 30, at Presentation College, San Fernando.

This year the teams were represented by athletes and had to use the athletes’ sport in their March Past. The teams really outdid themselves!

The teams were:
Central – Green – Brian Lara
East – Yellow – Ato Boldon
South – Purple – Giselle Salandy
(North)West – Blue – George Bovell
Tobago was invited but unfortunately could not attend.

Central marched off first to the sounds of the Presentation Band. One of their members, Christopher Mohammed, represented the England team and bowled to Joel Lord who played Brian Lara. There was also a slow motion replay as part of their presentation.

Ato Boldon in yellow marched well. Part of their presentation showed their marchers crouched to run with Jamal Legen complete in tights, portraying Ato Boldon running through them and the other competitors recoiling in Matrix style.

Marching off third was (North)West.Their flag bearer wore a swim cap. During their performance, the marchers did a sailor dance and then created waves for “George” to swim through. “George” (Kenton Primus) did so with great flair: backstroke and freestyle.

Finally, we had South who depicted Giselle Salandy. This team won Best Flag and Best Costume. The females wore purple hooded boxing robes. For their presentation the women were at the forefront showing differing boxing positions and punching the men of the team out.

They fought among themselves until there was a champion. Suddenly who would appear from the crowd but the famous Laila Ali (Shevon Weston) in black who fought well. However in the second round she was TKO’d by “Giselle” she joined the squad and marched off in defeat.

Our judges - Fr Steve Duncan, Dr Nelson Elle, Ian Dhaniram, Titian Clinton, and Marcia Hutton - had a difficult task. (North)West emerged the winners only two points ahead of second place South, with Central and East placing third and fourth respectively.

Following the March Past were Bunny Hop, Frog Hop, 25 metres boys and girls, Eat it and Four Legged races. The relay was plagued with false starts and upsets.

After the races came the small goal football. That trophy was won by Central who celebrated by spraying each other non-alcoholic champagne.

The final results: (North) West were overall winners for the third time running; South second place, Central third and East coming in fourth. Congratulations to all teams.

Although the day started late and was affected by short spurts of rain, an enjoyable time was had by all.

Touch of Christ wishes to extend extra special thanks to the Presentation Scouts whose help was invaluable and the principal of Presentation, Mr Jaikeransingh who allowed us to use the grounds free of charge.
